How are your books of accounts?

It is the financial year ending in India and for us at JTCPL Designs a reason
to be grateful for all the support the market place has showered on us . A big
thank you to everyone who touched our lives (and our books of accounts) .

At JTCPL Designs there are some fundamentals embedded into this very
important date : 31st March 2011 , the last day of the financial year 2010-11.

Books of accounts are like a mirror of the organization itself . They tell you
an uncensored story of what the entity is all about . “How well the books are
presented is how passionate the company is about her business”

There is a high degree of discipline required to complete the books of
accounts on time or rather before time . “The company which completes its
books on time completes most of the vital things on time”

The books help to analyse the structure of our success and therefore allow us
to measure it . “What cannot be measured , cannot be improved”

We also make a list of each and everyone on the books to whom we are
grateful , be it our Clients , our vendor partners , our consultants or just a snap
shot transaction for a specific activity within a project . It is almost like a diary
documenting the people who have co-authored our ‘Book of Success’ . “An
attitude of gratitude , elevates your altitude”

We have a habit of interviewing people on their trends for the financial year .
We have always seen that people who are proud of their trends and know
them by heart are the ones who eventually become more successful than
others . These are the people who are studious and cognizant about the ‘little
things’ “Awareness preceeds Mastery”

The Year Ahead

The year 2011 has several things working for our sector in particular . We can clearly see an upward spiral in terms of demand for commercial space . We see a rise in the influx of foreign entities as well as new requirements for already existing ones . The key to thriving in this very interesting and vibrant year is most clearly : FOCUS or shall I say MICRO FOCUS . we , at JTCPL Designs have always been loyal students of Corporate and Banking Interiors and we will continue learning and consuming all the knowledge which these sectors have to offer . Metaphorically speaking , we choose to be 'cardiologists' of the corporate sector . In literal sense , it also means being cognisant to the 'heartbeat' of this sector . I am intrigued by how diverse practices can be , an aspect which I do not see coming soon . One thing which I admire about the medical sector is their loyalty to the chosen discipline for eg. a neurosurgeon won't go about doing an open heart surgery just to make her repertoire more versatile . She sticks to her knitting and keeps on studying the nuances and advances in the chosen area of study . I think I have made the point or rather our point very clear .

I wish to share our line for 2011 before signing off " Say NO to GROW " ..............Cheers and till next time , keep studying !!

Innovation in Furniture Design

When aesthetics meets utility we see real innovation.
Furniture is one area of design that is seeing a lot of experimentation today. From using sustainable material to brilliant ideas to save space, we see it all around us.
One such example that has the added feature of working with sustainable material has been featured on this post.
Please add more such excellently designed furniture if you know of any and tell us what you like best about the design.

Talk about a thin folding chair, this one by Christian Desile is less than an inch thick when closed. Maybe you like the sustainable bamboo, or maybe you’d like the Black/White Laminate, which can be opened up either way so you can choose the preferred color. Also worth mentioning is that the chair can be hung on the wall when closed as a sort of graphic wood artwork (if it’s to your taste). What’s most impressive though is that 100 chairs closed and stacked side by side takes up only 2 linear meters.

We are already at the end of the first month of 2011

We are already at the end of the first month of 2011 and I can still hear the 'Happy New Year' wishes ringing loud . One of the innumerable times I realise that "Time is your most expensive asset" . I have a habit of debriefing various life cycles of my time . One of the most important amongst them is my monthly debrief . So , what is this debrief ? For me it is the documentation of all the wins I had , all the challenges I enjoyed , the important lessons I learnt , fine tuning of your annual goals after this important passage of time , celebrating relationships : my team , my Clients , new contacts , my students ( I truly enjoy learning the subject with them ) and launching myself into yet another gift of a month . I guess you get the idea .

Let me pull out one of the highlights from this debrief . I wish to share with all of you , our LEED gold certified project which is scheduled to be commissioned mid of February . It truly was a celebration to retrospect or shall I say , relish this project . Everything was(and is) right in this one , a supportive Client , great amount of freedom , a fantastic team working on the project , material imports coming just in time , our vendor partners bending backwards to achieve our commitments . I feel happy just mentioning these points . Though , we have been dabbling with sustainable interiors for some time now , we decided to up the ante and go for a USGBC certification . In our early days of documentation , my mind fleeted four years back when we were preparing ourselves for an external ISO 9001:2000 vetting . I must say documentation clearly improves the quality of your service and therefore your offering . We also have noticed the ease with which we have slipped onto our next LEED certified project , thanks to this one . Once we wrap this project up , it would be nice to share with you some highlights which green building documentation had to offer us .

Wish you a fantastic February and till next time !!

JTCPL Designs Blog

There are not too many design firms that maintain a blog. So far, neither has JTCPL Designs. We have commissioned a new website that incorporates various social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Youtube and this Blog in order to reach out to interested audiences across the world and talk about design and its impact on the world around us.

This initiative has been undertaken in order to raise awareness about design and the crucial role it plays in how productive we are in our workspaces and how comfortable we feel in private spaces.
We thank everyone in advance for their contribution in making this space vibrant and meaningful.
